Haya and Halaa’s Family Evacuation/Life Sustaining Fund.
United Kingdom
My name is Hayaa Al Masri, I am 25 years old. I am a law student who has been still studying during this. I recently managed to obtain a first class grade in my law exam, I am going to follow this with a masters. I wish to be a human rights lawyer. My sister Halaa has also been studying online and managed to achieve the same grade, and has the same ambition.
Our house was destroyed and our family was forced to leave.
We had lost our father just before we woke up in a combat zone, and have been trying our best to look after our mother and the children in our family, whilst being displaced over 9 times. From sheltering in bombed buildings and tents, to sleeping on the street with nothing around us.
There are 7 adults in total. My mother Etaf, sister Halaa, brothers Hani and Hammam(17), my sister Hanaa, her husband Mohammed and their 4 children; Musab Said age 10, Merna -8, Maria 4 and little Meral, 1 year 3 months.
I was struck in the head not too long ago by shrapnel, although I survived there are pieces embedded that need removing. My younger brother was also injured in this way.
My sister has been stuck in the North all this time with the children, besieged and struggling to find food. They tried to leave several times to join us south and turned back each time because of snipers and drones shooting at people en route. The children were too scared.
They were eating donkey feed and food that was spoiled for a while and had periods of starvation, their father was kidnapped by the occupation for a few days, in a separate incident taking him off the street and beating him, leaving him for dead. He was released and has recovered for this attack to some degree.
We don’t have any source of income or anywhere to go so we are appealing for funds to sustain life and evacuate. The price of food is still very high, as is the cost of travelling through the border which is currently open but we are anxious this could change at any moment. My mothers health is suffering daily- as well as her extremely high blood pressure (medication we need to pay for when available) she is suffering with her breathing through dust inhalation/ stress from living in a conflict zone. We are all scared she will not make it out.
If we manage to exit safely, we have nothing once we arrive in Egypt, there is no help
We will need to find some accommodation to stay in and still pay for essentials for life until we manage to find some way to live.
We have paid the crossing fees for my mother Etaf to be accompanied by my sister Halaa.
We are asking for donations towards the rest of our families evacuation so the children and our young remaining family can have a chance at life. The prices currently stand at 5,000 for an adult crossing fee, and 2,500 per child.
The amount we hope to raise is so we don’t have to leave any of our family behind, everyone is so young- we are starting our lives and there is nothing left.
My little brother was studying and longs to be back at school, the little ones have not been in education for over a year and they want their childhood back.
We will be forever indebted to each and every one who has helped our family, it restores our faith when we feel very alone. Please do not forget us.
All our love and thank you’s, Hayaa.
